Unit 3 pt 2 lab

1. What are the three changes you observe in a muscle while it is working?

The muscle gets tighter to the tough, meaning that it is contracting. The muscle will also change length as in the experiment with the arm. And the circumference changes because when the muscle tightens it can also change shape somewhat.

2. What effect did the cold temperature have on the action of your hand muscle?

It significantly slowed down the rate at which I could contract. This happens because the cold slows down the metabolism inside the muscles cells, so the muscle has less energy to create movement with.

3. What effect did the fatigue have on the action on your hand muscles?

It made it harder to contract. It is because I am depleting the energy available to the muscle to contact, making it harder and harder.

Conclusion:

Cold slows down the metabolism inside the muscles cells, so the muscle has less energy to create movement with. Repetitive movement with one muscle or a set of muscles depletes the energy available to the muscle to contact, making it harder and harder.

COMPENDIUMS: Great job on compendiums. Table of contents, sources cited and nice images with good concise descriptions.

LABS: Muscle lab should have images of you doing the experiment and data from your fatigue experiment. Your answers to the questions are good. Great job on the leech lab.

LAB PROJECT LIMB MODEL: I didn't see your model limb lab project. You must pass the lab project part of the course separately from the rest so please get the project done and let me know when it is ready. Even a minimal model should give you enough points to pass. Let me know if you need more time, but Unit Four must be done by the due date since I have to submit end of semester grades.

ETHICAL ISSUE ACTIVITY: I like your ideas for helping with obesity—television is not only problematic because it keeps us sitting, but also for the propaganda that comes with it, although of course there is also plenty of great information on t.v. And online......so many places to try and change things!

Skye, thanks for all your great work. Please be sure you read the complete instructions for all assignments like on the muscle fatigue lab. Also, let me know when your lab project is done...even if it's a quick effort....without it you might run into trouble with passing the class, even if your total points is fine....let me know if you have any questions on that...it is a requirement to pass the lab projects portion separate from everything else (see syllabus).
